Blaze win 4th straight game versus Striking Force

The Blaze remained at the top of the standings with a 3-2 victory over Striking Force. John scored the Blaze's first ever hat trick with two on the ground and one through the air.
The Blaze went down 1-0 in the first half, but scored 3 unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead in the second half. Striking Force scored a late goal to bring the final score to a closer than it really was 3-2 score. The Blaze put on relentless pressure with several shots on goal and Striking Force did well to not lose 5-2 or more. The defensive effort by Aaron, Ashley, Brad & Lynn Ann was a great support to Carlos, Lora & Annie in the midfield. Kenny, Wale and Brittany all had excellent opportunities to score with Wale's effort being particularly close.

Blaze Win Again inspite of injury to Courtney

The Blaze pulled out their 3rd win a row with a come from behind 3-2 triumph over SFX. This was accomplished despite a frightening injury to Courtney in the 2nd half. Courtney tore a ligament in her knee but it will not require surgery. Get well Court!
The 1st half saw the Blaze go up 1-0 with a goal from John, but SFX responded with 2 consecutive impressive goals, one from a tough angle and the other from a corner kick.
In the 2nd half, the Blaze came back with a goal from John to tie and a goal frome Kenny that slowly crossed the whole width of the goal before finally crossing the line.
Newcomers Lynn Ann and Bobby had solid games and Aaron filled in reliably at keeper for Jeff. Kayla and Lora had excellent games as they came back in action as well. John possibly leads the league with 6 goals and Kenny has scored 2.
The Blaze are now 1st in the league with 6 points, but Slackers and Whitecaps are only 1 point behind with 5

Blaze wins 2 in a row!

The Blaze continued a strong start to the Spring 2008 season with a 2-1 victory over Guthrie Large Mouth Bass. After conceding an early goal in the first half, the Blaze bounced back with a smart goal by John late in the first half. Aaron almost scored from distance at the very end of the half missing the top corner by inches.
The second half saw the score remain tied 1-1 with Guthrie coming close to breaking the tie with a shot that hit the post and skimmed by the goal line. The tie continued until a a pass from Kenny found John alone from the top of the box, his well placed shot beating the keeper low to the far right corner giving the Blaze a 2-1 lead. Brittany, Carlos, Brad and John all came close to adding to the lead but were denied by excellent goalkeeping. The last 15 minutes the Blaze tightened defensively and finished off Guthrie 2-1.
Great job Blaze!
Notables: - The girls played a second consecutive game without subs, way to go girls! Courtney did well at fullback despite being out of position. Jasmin had her best game yet with excellent hustle and passing particularly in the 2nd half. Annie also displayed great hustle stretching the field with her runs and passing. This game featured the debut of our newest teammate, its great to have you Brad! Both Santi (quad) and Carlos (knee) attempted to come back from injuries with Carlos faring much better with 40 solid minutes played, Santi was only able to go the first 10 before calling it a night.

1st Game Recap

We won our first game 3-0! 2 goals by John and 1 by Kenny.
Our new goalie Jeff had an outstanding game as did Jasmin. Jeff made a great play when he cleared a "tweener" ball that beat our backline but was way in front of him- he chased it down before the opposing striker got to it!
Jasmin was forced into duty for the wall on a free kick and was rewarded by taking a hit to the torso, great defense Jasmin!
Much improved passing and great effort, especially since we had no subs and only had 8 on the field to start the game
